The Cultural Landscape Foundation; Nickel Committee Join GCC

The Gropius in Chicago Coalition is extremely pleased to welcome our two newest Supporting Organizations, the Cultural Landscape Foundation and the Richard Nickel Committee.

The Cultural Landscape Foundation (TCLF) is the leading organization in the United States devoted to awareness of the Cultural Landscape.  Headquartered in Washington, D.C., TCLF is well known for its dynamic outreach programs, advocacy, and the yearly watch list of endangered landscapes, Landslide

In the words of TCLF,

The Cultural Landscape Foundation is the only not-for-profit foundation in America dedicated to increasing the public’s awareness of the importance and irreplaceable legacy of cultural landscapes. Through education, technical assistance, and outreach, the Cultural Landscape Foundation broadens the support and understanding for cultural landscapes nationwide in hopes of saving our priceless heritage for future generations.”

For more information on the definition of a Cultural Landscape, please see this description on the Foundation’s web site.

The Richard Nickel Committee is a Chicago-based non-profit organized around the archives of famed architectural photographer and preservationist Richard Nickel.  Nickel famously lost his life while documenting a Louis Sullivan building under demolition in downtown Chicago.

The Nickel Committee maintains and administers the archive of Richard Nickel, also working to promote his legacy and to make his life’s work available to researchers.

The Gropius in Chicago Coalition extends its thanks to these two important organizations for their recognition and support.  We feel that these latest voices speak strongly to the diversity and depth of importance at Michael Reese Hospital as a work of design, reflecting its irreplaceable architecture, site planning, and pioneering Modernist landscapes.
